A menos de un paso; ¿cómo percibimos a nuestros dioses?/Less than a step; how do we perceive our gods?

Está claro que las fuentes (Eddas, Sagas y canciones populares) ofrecen una interpretación bastante general de nuestros complejos dioses. Una lectura casual de este material brinda una base, un análisis profundo, otorga contexto y mayor desarrollo. Sin embargo, es en la vivencia de la Tradición donde la entidad muestra un panorama más amplio de sí mismo.

¿Qué tan cercanos son nuestros dioses a nosotros? depende de nuestra devoción y el lugar que les damos en nuestra vida. Por ejemplo, en mi caso, siempre he tenido una conexión muy fuerte con Frey desde que supe de su existencia. Me pareció un dios poderoso y con un corazón tan noble como el de Balder, capaz de escuchar los temores más profundos de sus fieles y ofrecer consejos tan reconfortantes como una bebida fresca en pleno verano.

Mi primer motivo para acercarme a su culto fueron los Alvar, los elfos, de quienes se dice, es el rey. Los elfos fueron el puente que me condujo hacia esta espiritualidad, desde entonces, ocupan un lugar tan importante en mi vida que prácticamente todas las cosas relevantes que he hecho han tenido una apasionada dedicatoria hacia ellos. Frey representa las cualidades más evidentes de estos seres humanoides, sobre todo la manera en la que sienten cada emoción con una intensidad que en Midgard nadie creería posible (enojo, deseo, alegría, tristeza, aburrimiento, etc), simplemente se expresan de la forma que lo haríamos si no tuviéramos que cumplir con tantos convencionalismos sociales, así son ellos y Frey no tendría por qué ser diferente, más aún siendo el rey.

¿Hacia dónde va todo esto? hablo de percepción personal de los dioses. Más allá de lo que nos dicen que son ¿qué atributos hemos descubierto de ellos en este camino? Puedo decir que Frey es un dios humorístico, sonriente, natural, temerario a veces, espontáneo, un buen anfitrión y conversador. Vive con simpleza en medio de su bosque porque se sabe dueño de todo cuanto crece (pese a ser una deidad relacionada también a la realeza y a las clases altas), es conocedor de los misterios de la luz y su manipulación, un maestro de las ilusiones ópticas y un magnífico líder que nunca ignora las necesidades ni los sufrimientos de ninguno de sus vasallos, si es que se les puede llamar así. Si alguien piensa en un “mejor amigo”, ese es Frey.

¿Qué sucede cuando nuestra mente se abre y tenemos la oportunidad de comunicarnos con nuestros dioses? hay conocimiento, experiencias enriquecedoras que nos ayudan a entender por qué hacemos lo que hacemos, por qué seguimos de pie dando lo mejor para que otros descubran si este es su camino. Estos trabajos (que a veces llevan horas) no salen por pasatiempo (hay mejores formas de divertirse), son actos de devoción hechos con el mismo cuidado con el que escribimos una tarjeta a alguien querido. Para nosotros, los dioses son amigos cercanos que nos impulsan a enfrentar las adversidades que se presentan, es una relación sinérgica.

Hay que entender que nuestros dioses no están atados a las expectativas o incluso a la moral de nuestras sociedades. Frey es un dios preocupado por la fertilidad de la tierra y la prosperidad, auxilia a quienes desean establecer una familia pero no por ello ignora a quienes manifiestan otros intereses. Si algo tienen los Vanir es un profundo respeto por los anhelos e inclinaciones de todas las personas (humanos o no), a tal grado que fue precisamente esa defensa la que desencadenó los conflictos que alguna vez tuvieron con los Aesir, según las fuentes. Frey no es un dios que juzgue a la primera, al contrario, cree en la plena conciencia y para él no hay nada más valioso que la honestidad con nosotros mismos.

¿Qué pasa cuando tienes a un dios a menos de un paso de ti? ya no te sientes solo, la palabra se convierte en acción y todo tiene un nuevo significado, dejas de existir para realmente vivir. Estoy segura que aquí abundan relatos al respecto, vivencias, situaciones misteriosas, sueños desconcertantes y algunas manifestaciones más sutiles; así es como se conoce a los dioses, es parte del proceso y es la prueba más contundente de que están más cerca de lo que imaginamos.

De Frey puedo decir más cosas, que es un ferviente defensor del amor (en todas sus formas), que considera que las sociedades decayeron por la imposición de roles e influencias negativas de culturas no afines, que no es promotor del libertinaje pero si de la salud emocional, que cuando se manifiesta es como el agua fresca de una fuente después de una larga caminata bajo el sol, que es un dios de acción y decisiones rápidas, que no cree en barreras de ningún tipo y que se le puede confiar cualquier secreto.

Así es como se vive, así se siente cuando los dioses son una realidad en nuestras vidas. Aquí no se trata de elegidos ni de gurús, solo la voluntad de querer comunicarnos y compartir con ellos lo que hemos descubierto en este ancho espacio llamado Midgard.

Me despido con una frase que se quedó en mi mente luego de esta experiencia:

"¿Qué tendría que aparentar quien es dueño de todo?"

It is clear that the sources (Eddas, Sagas and folk songs) offer a fairly general interpretation of our complex gods. A casual reading of this material provides background, deep analysis, provides context and further development. However, it is in the experience of the Tradition where the entity shows a broader view of itself.

How close are our gods to us? it depends on our devotion and the place we give them in our lives. For example, in my case, I have always had a very strong connection with Frey ever since I learned of his existence. He struck me as a powerful god with a heart as noble as Balder's, able to listen to the deepest fears of his faithful and offer advice as comforting as a cool drink in midsummer.

My first reason to approach his cult was the Alvar, the elves, of whom it is said, he is the king. The elves were the bridge that led me to this spirituality, since then, they occupy such an important place in my life that practically all the relevant things I have done have had a passionate dedication to them. Frey represents the most obvious qualities of these humanoid beings, especially the way in which they feel each emotion with an intensity that no one in Midgard would believe possible (anger, desire, joy, sadness, boredom, etc), they simply express themselves in the way that we would do it if we didn't have to comply with so many social conventions, that's how they are and Frey wouldn't have to be different, even more so being the king.

Where is all this going? I speak of personal perception of the gods. Beyond what others tell us they are, what attributes have we discovered about them on this path? I can say that Frey is a humorous god, smiling, natural, reckless at times, spontaneous, a good host and conversationalist. He lives simply in the middle of his forest because he knows he owns everything that grows (despite being a deity also related to royalty and the upper classes), he knows the mysteries of light and its manipulation, a master of illusions optics and a magnificent leader who never ignores the needs and sufferings of any of his vassals, if they can be called that. If anyone thinks of a “best friend”, it is Frey.

What happens when our minds are opened and we have the opportunity to communicate with our gods? there is knowledge, enriching experiences that help us understand why we do what we do, why we continue to give our best so that others discover if this is their path. These works (which sometimes take hours) are not just a hobby (there are better ways to have fun), they are acts of devotion done with the same care with which we write a card to someone we love. For us, the gods are close friends who drive us to face the adversities that arise, it is a synergistic relationship.

You have to understand that our gods are not tied to the expectations or even the morals of our societies. Frey is a god concerned about the fertility of the land and prosperity, he helps those who wish to establish a family but does not ignore those who have other interests. The Vanir have a deep respect for the desires and inclinations of all people (human or not), to such a degree that it was precisely this defense that triggered the conflicts they once had with the Aesir, according to the sources. Frey is not a god who judges at first, on the contrary, he believes in full consciousness and for him there is nothing more valuable than honesty with ourselves.

What happens when you have a god less than a step away from you? you no longer feel alone, the word becomes action and everything has a new meaning, you cease to exist to truly live. I am sure that here there are many stories about it, experiences, mysterious situations, disconcerting dreams and some more subtle manifestations; this is how the gods are known, it is part of the process and it is the strongest proof that they are closer than we imagine.

I can say more about Frey, that he is a fervent defender of love (in all its forms), that he considers that societies declined due to the imposition of negative roles and influences from unrelated cultures, that he is not a promoter of libertinism, instead, he is a protector of emotional health, that when it manifests itself it is like fresh water from a fountain after a long walk in the sun, that he is a god of action and quick decisions, that he does not believe in barriers of any kind and that he is you can trust any secret

This is how it is to live, this is how it feels when the gods are a reality in our lives. Here it is not about the chosen ones or gurus, just the will to want to communicate and share with them what we have discovered in this wide space called Midgard.
